![]() At times wire line fishing is like watching paint drying for sure. There are some very good spoon fishermen here on the barn that we have learned a ton from over the years. This being the barn I expected a certain amount of heckling, it comes with the territory. Sorry I realize that people are very loyal to what has worked in the past and loyalty to sponsors is great. If you can reduce your number of spoons from 16 or so depending on conditions to 5 or 6 that is a win/win and worth a look based on my experience trolling nearly 95% of the time. As getting a consistent action on a spoon at a running depth of 70' is very different and more demanding then say 25 or even 40 feet. So is this to say that one is good and the other is junk? Not in the least, but these spoons are worth a very serious look when you are starting to target bigger fish very deep in the water column. And they potentially have reduced the number of spoons that we have to maintain and tune. I love the fact that they are made here in NJ by a guy that is passionate about the construction and use of the spoons. After pulling the Spoon-Fed lures I have found that they really but a super deep and consistent bend in the Batson blank that is used by Kevin and the rhythm to the spoons seems to stay the same independent of the the sea state. Based on how *we* fish I have never fished a spoon that worked (meaning action) in flat calm water going really slow as well as a spoon that would work in a very confused and or steep head sea without increasing your speed drastically seeking the same repeatable action. Up until now I always felt that certain spoons worked best in certain conditions. We previously would use a reliable spoon (even though I hate the trebles) as our super deep and or super rough water spoon. ![]() Not saying that at all and not looking to pick any fights either as we have used the #4 maja spoon for years as our go to option for calm to brisk days. ![]() Would love to release our first 50# bass on a New Jersey made spoon on Memorial day! We are convinced that their just might be a better mouse trap!!! Excited to get back out there as the big girls are moving through. And these spoons are perfectly matched to our Kevin Bogan bunker spoon rods! Today we were out for just about an hour with the screaming south wind and released a 38# bass on the green "Spoon-Fed" spoon. And I have to say that these spoons kept a very consistent action in any direction with 420' of wire out! Sure running into a 4' sea or down sea required us to adjust our speed but the action was consistent. Well for the last few trips we have been fishing in very challenging sea states. And guess what the bunker spoons are made right here in the Garden State!!!Įveryone knows that the proof is in the action of a spoon. Finally a keel that is less likely to fall off over time. As well we noted how the keel weights were attached. The coloring was very consistent and did not appear to be the paint that would flake over time. The first thing that really caught my attention was the quality. Being a self proclaimed tackle whore we had to pick up a few different options. Recently Dave and Eric at the Reel Seat introduced us to "Bunker-Fed" bunker spoons. ![]() One of the things that we really enjoy is catching big fish on bunker spoons and its no secret that we do a ton of trolling.
